Back in June a group friends consisting of photographers, makeup artists and stylists sat down for dinner to discuss a variety of projects that each of us wanted to bring to life. One of those projects was the advertising campaign for Ashley Flora’s Master Airbrush 101 class, in which she asked me to do the photography. Beyond ecstatic, I said yes as if it were an instinctive reflex, and at that moment although I didn’t know who I’d be shooting, I knew how I’d be shooting it. The end result would be very clean, high key and it would be done with a clam shell arrangement, a back lit diffuser and a hair light . In my head the studio came to life, going over my gear and arranging the set up, I could not wait! Ok, so the date rolls around the corner and the next thing I know it’s game time. We have Ashley doing Makeup of course, Matthew Tyldesley styling hair, Lauren LoBue modeling and then my partner Joey Goldsmith assisting and shooting Behind The Scenes. We had a collective vision and we executed it with precision! We all know we don’t live in a text book perfect world but this shoot would have to be as close as it gets. Lauren starts out with Ashley, moves on to Matthew then heads to the studio and we are now ready to go. Fire off a couple test shots, make a few minor adjustments to the lights and her hair, then we are now witnessing our work come to life on the iPad (shooting tethered with a CamRanger is a remarkable way for the team to view the images being fired off). Lauren’s knocking out poses left and right. Ashley and Matthew are giving her props, then they are switching them out for other props, then they take the props again and instantaneously become hand models with the props, then Lauren tilts her head slightly to camera left and freaking boom! At that moment I knew I had the shot, but hell we were having fun so Lauren continued on cranking out the poses, giving us plenty of material for the ad campaign. I believe from the call time to the wrap time we were just under 3 hours... the team came in kicking ass and taking names… and to be honest, I can’t wait to do it again. On behalf of our team I’d like to invite you into our experience through these behind the scenes and final images. Focused.
